And it's on this stretch of island pleasure (11 miles long and 3 miles wide) that you can look out upon blue Caribbean from which tall green islands emerge, massive and gemlike, each one lording itself over its surrounding, watery kingdom - yet each one uncannily demure. Anegada's Underwater Sights

One of the most impressive underwater attractions that can be found on the island of Anegada is the RMS Rhone. This famous ship was actually a direct mail carrier that got itself brutally destroyed in the famous, and never-to-be-forgotten 1867 hurricane. Divers from around the world love to come here and check it out - all the time.

But if you're looking for something a little more artificial, then dive down and explore Pat. This should ship was intentionally sunk expressly for the purpose of divers getting the opportunity to explore an amazing - although not authentic-shipwreck.

When I think about Pat, I have to say to myself, at least for a moment, "Oh, come on!" I mean, with 500 shipwrecks waiting to be explored in one of the Caribbean's most dangerous reefbeds, wasn't it just a little bit unnecessary to go and sink another one, just for the fun of it?"

Perhaps. But they did it anyway, and, well, here we are! After diving down to Pat, though, you might realize that it's actually a lot more interesting than many of the other ones, and so you can start to see their point.

Be sure not to miss the gutter reef. Why? Well, it's only the third largest in the entire world and - divers check this out - because of this reef, Anegada has one of the highest number of shipwrecks in the world. Perfect.
